Mel is a businessman having owned and operated a Group of five New World supermarkets and other businesses in the Nelson Tasman Region.

He has represented Nelson as its Member of Parliament for 6 years and served on the Foreign Affairs , Education and Agriculture/Fisheries parliamentary select committees. Mel was Opposition spokesman for Horticulture and Fisheries.

Mel says “Nelson is a special place” and he wants to see that it stays that way “this will mean maintaining a balance between growth and development on one hand and our way of life and environment on the other”.

First day of spring

Spring is the time to renew our hopes & dreams, isn’t it?

GOOD NEWS - UPDATE - SOME BIKING & WALKING TRAILS NOW OPEN.

The beach has now become more accessible for everyone with the arrival of the Mobi-Beach Mat.

The mat, will allow wheelchairs & strollers etc to reach the sand & sea.

The mat is another community project funded by Nelson Host Lions Club with additional support from NCC.

A big thank you must also go to Toby Wild and his team at Moana Paddle Nelson who will roll the beach mat out on the sand & then bring it in & store it.

JOB DONE - PATHWAY BETWEEN MAIN ROAD STOKE & NEALE AVENUE – HAS BEEN COMPLETED.

George Truman you will be pleased to know work on constructing a pathway along Poorman Valley Stream between Main Road Stoke & Neale Avenue has now been completed.

The gap you identified has been filled with a new 2.5 metre wide shared path. It runs along the true left bank of the stream from Main Road Stoke (by the Countdown carpark), past the Whareama Rest Home through to Neale Ave.

The pathway creates a connection between the recreation areas of Neale Reserve (& nearby sections of the Railway Reserve) & Isel Park & Greenmeadows Reserve.

It also provides an off-road connection, all the way from Marsden Valley & out to the Great Taste Trail on Whakatu Drive. Connecting/linking our community is important, isn't it?

JOB DONE - TRAFALGAR PLAZA IN LIGHTS.

EPIC OPENING OF McGAZZALAND PUMP TRACK & REMEMBERING KELLY McGARRY.

It was a beautiful afternoon at McGazzaland in Wakefield for the opening of the new asphalt sealed pump track. It's a perfect track for mountain bikes, BMX's & scooters.

The new sealed track sits alongside the recently revamped clay track.

GOOD NEWS - Great family event - Matariki Festival

The evening will commence at 5pm with an interesting night market & waka ama (outrigger canoes) along the Maitai River, Rutherford Park.

The entertainment will be local kapa haka Pasifika groups & a performance by special guest Ria Hall.

There will be various light art displays at Rutherford Park after dusk & the evening will conclude with a firework display at 8pm.

There will be no access to cash withdrawals at the festival & limit access to eftpos - remember to bring cash - have fun.

Matariki is the Maori name for a cluster of 9 stars (also known as the Pleiades star cluster).When they rise in mid-winter it signals the commencement of the Maori New Year.

It’s a time to celebrate new life, to remember those who’ve passed and to plan for the future.
